Center for Education Reform (CER)
CER is a national, nonprofit education advocacy group and support and resource provider in the issues of school choice. They provide a special section on their site for parents which includes issues of their monthly parent newsletter called "Parent Power!"
Greatschools.net
Greatschools.net is an online guide to information about public, private, and charter schools serving K-12 in all 50 states. They provide an extensive, state-specific Parent Resource Center that includes information such as special education, parental involvement, choices and alternatives, school selection process, etc. (To view the Resource Center, first click on the state for which you’d like to view the information. Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) Resources, Parent Brochures
ERIC is a national information system funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of education Sciences to provide access to education literature and resources. Along with providing an extensive database and operating 16 subject-specific clearinghouses, ERIC provides many educational resources, like the Parent Brochures that answers an extensive list of parent-related questions.
National Coalition for Parent Involvement in Education (NCPIE)
NCPIE serves as the representative, conducts activities, and provides resources and legislative information to advocate the involvement of parents and families in their children’s education.
National PTA
The National PTA is the largest volunteer child advocacy organization in the United States. Their website provides helpful information on Parental Involvement. Among their many resources, the National PTA has also made a statement about their position on charter schools.
U.S. Department of Education
The U.S. Department of Education maintains a Parents & Families section which provides an extensive list of resources and links for parents and families on a variety of education issues including school readiness, K-12 and aftercare programs, reading, and special needs.
Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)
The CEC is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted.
The Families and Advocates Partnership for Education Project (FAPE)
FAPE is one of four projects funded by the U.S. Department of Education to reach parents, administrators, service providers, and policymakers nationwide with information about implementing the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) in order to improve the educational outcomes for children with disabilities.
Internet Special Education Services (ISER)
ISER is a nationwide directory of professionals who serve the learning disabilities and special education communities. ISER helps parents and caregivers find local special education professionals to help with learning disabilities and attention deficit disorder assessment, therapy, advocacy, and other special needs.
LD Online
LD Online is a good web resource on the issues of learning disabilities (LD) and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) for parents, teachers, and other professionals.
National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities ( NICHCY)
NICHCY is the national information center that provides information on disabilities and disability-related issues. They also provide their information and resources in Spanish.
