Amendment(s):   Changes to the Charter School Law were made by bills passed during the 1999 and 2001 regular legislative sessions.

Authorizers:   Local school board or the Lousiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE).

Caps on number of schools:   Up to 42 charter schools statewide.

Funding:   A Type 1, Type 3 or Type 4 charter school receives its funding through its local school board, and a Type 2 charter school receives its funding through the State Department of Education and BESE
