| Legislative Summary | Idaho charter legislation, passed in 1998, authorizes local school districts to grant one charter school per year up to a maximum of 12 statewide per year, and a total of 60 in the first five years. Charter terms are up to five years, as are renewal terms. Funding is comparable to other public schools. The law stipulates that charter schools must describe "measurable student education standards," must address educational thoroughness, and must administer statewide standardized tests. Teacher certification regulations are not waived.
