| Brief Overview | Hawaii passed charter school legislation in 1994, which was amended by Act 62 (SB 1501) in 1999. Further legislative revisions were made in 2001. There are currently 25 new century charter schools in operation, the maximum allowed under Hawaii legislation. Hawaii's charter schools serve over 3,300 students. |
