| Legislative Summary | House Bill 1759 contains the Oklahoma Charter Schools Act, which permits the creation of a charter school in a school district with an average daily membership of 5,000 or more, located in a county with a population of 500,000 or more (i.e. in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City areas). Both local school districts and area vocational-technical school districts can grant charters. A board of education, public agency, public or private college or university, private person, or private organization are all eligible applicants for charters. Charter terms are 3 years, and charter school funding is comparable to other public schools, less up to 5% for administrative costs.
