Among the more complex challenges facing charter schools is the responsibility to provide education to students with disabilities under various federal civil-rights based laws including the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Project SEARCH was a qualitative research study designed to respond to the need for clarifying information about the implementation of special education policy in the nation's public charter schools.
