Charter Public School Act of RI

Amended in 1998.
Authorizers:
The commissioner of education and/or the school committee where the charter public school is to be located are authorized to recommend to the Board of Regents the granting of the charter.
Length of charter:
5 years
Caps on number of schools:
The only cap that currently exists is the statewide cap of 20 schools.
Funding:
100 percent of state and school district operations funding follows students, based on average school district per-pupil revenue minus 5 percent of the state share, which the school district retains for administration and impact. Charter school and school district negotiate cost of services that the charter school wants the school district to provide.
