The mission of the Bay Area Coalition of Essential Schools is to dramatically improve educational outcomes and life options for students and families who have been historically underserved by their schools and districts. BayCES fulfills its mission by leading, coaching and supporting school, district and community leaders to create and sustain systems of equitable and high performing small schools.
Services/Strategies:
Currently, BayCES' services are organized in the following areas: coaching school leaders and teachers, design teams and district leaders; equity centered professional development and networking services; and grants to schools. BayCES' work draws on seven core content areas: leadership for school change; instructional leadership; data-based inquiry; equity centered professional learning communities; cultural competence; facilitation skills; and training coaches for educational equity. Our work is research-based and designed to meet the changing needs of our network.
