Twelve studies find that overall gains in charter schools are larger than other public schools; four find charter schools’ gains higher in certain significant categories of schools; six find comparable gains; and, four find that charter schools’ overall gains lagged behind traditional schools.

Description: NAS, a non-profit corporation founded in 1991 to create comprehensive school designs, has a national initiative to support charter school development and operations. The goals of this project are to integrate the work of NAS Design Teams with the charter schools movement, increase the use of comprehensive school designs, and promote effective and accountable charter schools.
