Abstract: In an analysis by the New York City Center for Charter School Excellence, researchers found that 65 percent of 8th grade NYC public charter school students met or exceeded state proficiency standards compared with 41 percent of all city 8th graders. Nearly 77 percent of all 4th graders in NYC charter schools met or exceeded standards on the state math test, improving their average scores over last year by 9.6 percentage points. That compares with 77 percent of all city 4th graders -- an increase of 9.3 percentage points from last year.
