Abstract: This policy brief investigates the provisions in state charter school laws that facilitate or inhibit schools' ability to partner with for-profit, nonprofit, and public organizations.
The researchers found that state policies have a noticeable effect on both the prevalence and types of charter school partnerships that exist. States with permissive partnering guidelines are fostering a wide range of charter school partnerships with nonprofit, for-profit and public entities. The study also shows that states with established charter school resource centers tend to have more partnerships. The brief suggests that partnerships hold promise for leveraging resources, enhancing the delivery of educational services and, ultimately, for improving student achievement.
