Abstract: This privately-funded study is an overview of interviews and 40 case studies from Arizona's charter school organizations which completed their fifth year of operation in 1999-2000. The study examines eight areas of charter school operation: demographics, curriculum, student achievement, student and school performance (including non-academic measurements), human resources, business development, finance/reporting, and sponsorship. The report's authors find that Arizona's mature charter schools are innovative and responsive to stakeholders, and serve a disenfranchised and diverse student population.
