Initial Study of Pennsylvania Charter Schools

Abstract:  This 1998-99 survey of staff, student, and parents in Pennsylvania charter schools examines teacher, student, and family characteristics. The survey found that the majority of charter teachers are certified, the enrollment of boys and girls is even, and that minorities make up approximately three-quarters of charter school enrollments. Approximately, one-half of the children enrolled in the surveyed charter schools come from households with a single parent.
