On February 3, charter school supporters in Wyoming asked the Joint Education Committee to consider ways to relax the state's charter school law. They said Wyoming's charter legislation is well-intentioned but unsuccessful. Only three charter schools have been established since the law was passed in 1995. Michelle Escudero, a charter school developer, told the committee: "If you could examine the issue, it may help smooth out the process so that there can be more charter schools to fulfill the intent of the law." Senator Hank Coe said the panel is interested in doing such a study, but it's up to the Management Council to approve study topics. He said the Joint Education Committee would decide the topics for study before the end of the session.
