Last week the News Connection reported on Shawadeim Reagans from TEAM Academy in New Jersey who won the American Stars of Teaching Award from the U.S. Department of Education. Now another teacher joins the exclusive ranks of the award recipients who are recognized for their extraordinary efforts in the classroom. One teacher is selected from each state and the District of Columbia each year. Shadwick Jenkins, a third grade teacher at the Friendship Public Charter School (Chamberlain Campus) in the District of Columbia, was recognized as an "American Stars of Teaching" recipient by the Department of Education in mid-September. Jenkins, a lead teacher, was selected out of thousands of nominations from the Washington, D.C. area. He has taught at the school for six years and noted to be an innovative and dedicated teacher.
