The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation continues to support public charter school expansion around the nation. It recently awarded $2.5 million in grants to allow Uncommon Schools and Success Charter Network, two public charter school management organizations, to expand the number of their schools in New York City. Uncommon Schools, which serves 1,000 students at six schools in Brooklyn, will receive $1.5 million to help it reach its goal of opening 14 more schools in five years. Success Charter Network, founded in 2006 by Eva Moskowitz, a former New York City councilwoman, will receive one million dollars over two years to support its four Harlem Success schools and to help move forward its ten-year plan of 40 schools. Mr. Broad called the donation a "great investment."
