What is the purpose of this program? This program supports the implementation of high-quality professional development model programs in elementary and secondary education for music, dance, drama, and visual arts educators. Funds support innovative instructional methods, especially those linked to scientifically-based research.
How can these funds be used? Projects include professional development programs for teachers working in high-poverty schools. Designed for K-12 arts teachers, programs must focus on: the development, enhancement, or expansion of standards-based arts education programs; or the integration of arts instruction into other subject area content.
What are the eligibility requirements? Local LEAs where 75% or more of students are from low-income families in collaboration with 1) an institution of higher education, 2) a SEA, 3) a public or private non-profit agency with a history of providing high-quality professional development services to public schools.
What is the application or allocation process? If a competition is held in 2004, applicants will be able to submit an application to the Department by mail or electronically.
