Recreational Grant Programs

What is the purpose of this program?
This program provides individuals with disabilities inclusive recreational activities and experiences that can be expected to aid them in their employment, mobility, socialization, independence, and community integration. Projects must maintain, at a minimum, the same level of services over a three-year project period and assure that the services program awarded will be continued after the federal assistance ends. The federal share of cost under this program is 100 percent for the first year of the grant, 75 percent for the second year, and 50 percent for the third year.

How can these funds be used?
Supported projects include arts activities, handicrafts, homemaking, camping, 4-H activities, scouting, and sports. Also supported are the development of vocational skills to improve mobility and social skills to promote independence and integration into the community.

What are the eligibility requirements?
Eligible applicants include: institutions of higher education, LEAs, nonprofit organizations, other organizations and/or agencies, SEAs, federally recognized Indian tribal governments, YMCAs, recreation department programs, and state vocational rehabilitation agencies.

What is the application or allocation process?
There will be no new applications for this program until FY 2005.
