Partnerships in Character Education Program

What is the purpose of this program?
The purpose of the Partnerships in Character Education Program is to provide assistance for the development of stronger character and citizenship among our nation's students. Grants are awarded to eligible organizations to design and implement character education that are integrated into classroom instruction, provide training for teachers, involve perspective of parents and students in program implementation and development, be consistent with State and academic content standards, and conduct rigorous evaluation of the effectiveness of character education.

How can these funds be used?
Funds can be used for:
--collaborative initiatives with and between local educational agencies and schools
--preparation or purchase of materials, and teacher training
--provide assistance to LEAs, schools, or institutions of higher education
--technical assistance and evaluation support for program implementation

What are the eligibility requirements?
Only SEAs and LEAs can apply.

What is the application or allocation process?
The process for applying is through a competitive grant competition. If there is a competition, an announcement is published in the Federal Register.
