A heard a university professor say just last week that he starts with the outcome he wants, and then does the research to support it. He was not referring to charter schools specifically, but just his approach to research in general. If there is one who takes this approach to science, might there not be many? We should ask ourselves whether there are disincentives for professors to engage in research with an open mind(comfort and the job security that comes from a yearly crop of traditional teacher-trainees immediately come to mind), and whether there is a way to make honest research more appealing for these folks.
