To those of us out west, the night is still young and I am finding myself wishing this dialogue could continue. I want to express my gratitude in general to everyone who contributed to this fine discussion. In particular I wanted to emphasize Lauren's point that it would be productive if district administrators would take the time to learn from charter schools that are able to implement rapid change. But not just conversion schools. Starting a school from scratch can teach us a great deal about how we have to confront our own limiting ideas about what is possible. In my view, restructuring can only lead to a better learning environment if it becomes a better learning environment for the adults as well as the students.
