I look forward to reading the ECS paper. The question of the role and future of unions is fascinating. The teacher marketplace is changing and I would argue that teachers are well positioned to demand decent salaries and work conditions. An exception to this is teachers working in rural communities where there might not be a market and the local community may be somewhat hostile due to a perception that teacher are ver well relative to other community members. The big question is whether the unions are ready, willing, or able to evolve as the teacher marketplace evolves. Evolution would seem essential to their survival.
