Expanding Leadership for Charter School 6/10/04 1:50 PM
Author: Rebecca Akporiaye View Thread

Your question, "Where is this movement going to find these kinds of leaders for its next 3,000 schools?" is an apt one. At Arizona Sate University West we have the Leadership for Educational Entrepreneurs fast-track masters program. When the first cohort of 24 fellows were asked last spring how many students they were impacting they reported more than 50,000 students nationwide.

This may sound like a drop in the bucket, but when I was doing focus groups at the Fellows school sites I found out that the impact may in fact be larger. For example, it was reported during recent a consortium meeting of Montessori charter schools in Arizona that one fellow's research had an impact on each of their schools.

Let's hope universities and organizations expand their focus on building the leadership capacity for charter schools in the future!

What types of leadership programs do you find most effective?
