Have any of you seen the book, Teaching With Fire (Jossey Bass, 2003)? this is a book that includes poems teachers have found work very well with young people, accompanied by a very short - one page or less - essay by an educator explaining how she/he used the poem.
More than 30,000 copies of the book have sold in less than a year as people have found it useful - and to employ an overused word: INSPIRATIONAL.
Complete disclosure - I had a very small role in this book - but all proceeds are going to a group that convenes teachers. The contributors are not receiving any royalties - so I am not promoting something here from which I will gain - other than the idea that more people would be able to use the great poems.
