While I am happy to see the development of site-based teacher governance models, like EdVisions, there is also a need to encourage models that keep teacher involvement and high energy through the quality leadership of a principal. Wouldn't we all benefit by encouraging charter founders and governing bodies to do their best to hire principals or school directors who are excited by the vision of the school and who are committed to stay with the school and provide continuity and stability for at least three years? One of the leadership essentials of a charter principal seems to be in assisting in the developing and maintaining of trust and strong collegial relationships among the staff and faculty. I have seen many teachers burn out by feeling they had too many administrative responsibilities and weren't able to successfully meet their teaching goals.
