Of course we like the teacher-owner model here at EdVisions but there are a couple of drawbacks. First is the issue Patty so poignantly makes; that if you don't get separation from the district, real ownership is next to impossible. That begs for strong charter laws and subsequently, teacher-owner models.
And second, if the teachers don't understand their new role as real "owners" of the instructional program, they tend to act in the same old ways. It takes an extraordinary shift in thinking to make this real but the long term rewards for teachers are tremendous.
Are there any other models of this out there?
