Over the years I have developed a simple interview strategy that has resulted in selecting excellent teachers. I give the applicant the following list and ask them to priortize the items:
text books
classroom technology
students
administrative support
family support
Then I ask them to discuss the list in the order they have selected. The discussion reveals their philosophy and their approach to teaching and learning. The best applicants usually list students first.
I have also have the opportunity of working with Spence Rogers and his P.E.A.K. program for teachers. His approach even turned around some of the high school teachers I thought were lost forever.
