While parents have strong feelings about what their children should learn and how their own children learn, charters are public schools and as such must be equipped to serve the instructional needs of all students. Schools need to involve people who understand the needs of students with disabilities, how a person acquires a second language, what research based practices exist for teaching reading to all types of learners, and how to build effective programs of professional development. There is a professional knowledge and research base that must be brought into the organization for it to succeed with its primary mission which is student achievement.
