The Arizona Department of Education has focused the SIG on improving education for students with special needs in charter settings. To that end, we provide training, scholarships, mentoring, parent trainings, and help forming shared services agreements among charters. Arizona is the only state to focus its efforts with the SIG specifically on charters, and the results have been significant. There has been a reduction in complaints issued against charters and an increase in both compliance, and numbers of fully certified special education teachers serving in charters.
