The goal of "increased academic achievement for all students" represents one point of view, in this case based on a business or industrial, product-oriented model with the premise that things can and should always get bigger and better, as defined by the market. I would like to hear about other models, given that each student is a unique individual, with different talents, goals, and life paths. For example, what would be the consequences of adopting the goal of nurturing independence and the love of learning by providing the basic skills necessary for each child to discover and pursue his or her own goals in life, without defining in the abstract what constitutes "achievement."
