Gerry V has done an excellent job of describing what a charter resource center can do. I agree that resource centers have a vital role. Because the Mn. Charter School Resource Center also is a part of the University of Minnesota, we've also been able to
* work with students who want to do independent study projects, including one research project that helped convince the state legislature to allocate $ to help pay for charter facilities. Our grad student's research showed that charter schools were receiving $1-2 thousand per student less than district schools
* work with students completing master or PhD papers, who are ok to helping do research for charter schools. For example, several of our students have surveyed graduates of charter schools (at the request of the schools) to help determine strengths, and areas where improvment is needed.
We also have convened meetings and published a variety of materials, including a variety of columns in major newspapers around the state.
Thanks to Gerry for pointing out the critical role that charter resource centers can play.
