I agree totally with your points regarding the parent opened and operated charter schools. I started a school and watch it mature with great anxiety and pride. It has always been a concern of mine wondering who will keep the school open and moving forward after the initial founders leave. As an authorizer, I found that the transition from the founding "group" to another "group" was almost as difficult as the process of opening the school. You are correct some schools do not survive the transition. With that, the role of management organizations or service providers may help in the transition process. They can give stability to an unstable situation in terms of academic standards and behind the scenes school support services. Sure there is no group that would do this at a loss. However, if the school's achievement is stable and/or improving, it is fiscally sound, and the mission is maintained, the students reap the ultimate benefits of maintaining this quality choice.
