Given that this is a group of innovative people, I'd love to hear from panelists and participants about how some charter schools have found creative solutions to their facility needs, either for temporary space or their permanent home.
A charter school that opened over in my area seven years ago was plagued by the inability to secure a facility before opening. So, it opened its doors in a local independent movie theater.
The school would set up and tear down its materials every day. They used the projection screen for overheads and created special lap boards for students to use as desks. Although this was not an ideal facility at any level, it did give the school time to negotiate permanent space in a former schoolhouse.
Are there solutions that can be suggested that can help charter school developers deal with the facility challenge, in the short-term and long-term?
