Charter schools will not have the opportunity to be accountable to parents and students if they are not first accountable to their authorizers.

Charter authorizers are the gatekeepers, the midwives, and in states without an appeal process, they are the supreme court.

The power of authorizers is real. Their consistent challenge is establishing an accountability system that maintains oversight without micromanaging.

How are the best authorizers fulfilling their roles without diminishing flexibility?
