Increasing the quality of current charters begins by increasing the quality of current teacher training. One discussion that many conversions do not take is the preparation of teachers. Preparing teachers to change how they teach and why they teach is not simple. Just because teachers know that converting to a "Chartered School" is good does not sufficently explore the mental and psychological change that they have to make. 15 educators can apply to work at a charter school and all 15 will have similar but yet varying notions of what the school should be doing and what it should look like. Whether converting a school or creating a new one, charter schools should be about professional development. Unless the school leaders takes a proactive stance on providing quality teacher professional development and peer coaching, the gap in teacher quality begins to widen.
