Why Charter Schools? 6/8/04 8:21 AM
Author: Anna Varghese Active Panelist  View Thread

The charter movement is at a crossroads and it's time to focus more heavily on creating and sustaining high quality charter schools, as Anita suggested. Charter schools have always lived under a microscope, and with the implementation of NCLB, the level of scrutiny will only increase. But it's a huge opportunity for leaders to come forward and take full advantage of this new era of accountability, because for charter schools, accountability is not something new or unknown. The converesion of failing schools into charters is something that we absolutely need to prepare for, and the importance of recruiting new leaders for charter schools cannot be overstated.

Charter leadership programs such as Building Excellent Schools, and the leadership training program out of Arizona State University, and others are vitally important, especially now as we move into a new phase of the movement.
