Anita said, "school can't hide the bad news anymore and that's important." Houston, Texas was able to hide their dropout rate for years as does many other school systems. Charter schools were created because the factory schools don't work for the majority of our students. Private schools are accountable to their customers but not to those who have no direct interest. Charter schools should be responsible to those they serve and to those who pay the bills. However, NCLB is a federal bureaucracy that is trying to force states, to force local school districts, to force individual schools, to force teachers, to force students to do the same old things they have been doing for years through testing, financial incentives, and threats. This law encourages schools to continue to be the one size fits all factory system that was created by James Bryant Conant. This in turn forces more students out the back door without an education without any accountability on the part of the state or federal government.
