I was under the impression that charter schools were originally created to provide alternatives to the public school factories and to allow parents, students and teachers to take ownership over their environment. And, at the same time to create models of schools that worked and would force public schools to adopt through a loose market system of competition. With NCLB, a top down method of control that appears to legislate commonality through standards, financial incentives, legislation and market driven accountability measures among all public schools, my worry is that all it will do is force charter schools into the same factory based educational system that charter schools were suppose to change.
