While the Arizona State Board for Charter Schools has a legislative committee and a person on staff to do public policy, as a regulatory agency, their lobbying efforts have been towards awarding them greater power in regulating charters rather than the association's efforts on deregulating or advocating for schools. The association and the state board do try to work together, but our roles differ when they work as the authorizing entity, and we work on behalf of the charter operators. We find ourselves sometimes supporting each other, and other times in opposition.
