One of the factors I find of great import in discussing charter schools with local and regional legislators is to always make a careful distinction between charter schools and "voucher" based education environments. All too often most legislators find that they hae been informed that these are one and the same. It is absolutely essential that advocates for charter schools invite legislators and members of the executive branches of government to visit and understand that these are not voucher schools; that charter schools offer alternative opportunities to communities, parents, students under the current public education systems.
