Recent advances in technology have opened all sorts of new pathways to local media within communties. Perhaps the most direct and immediate one of matter is Web logs, or blogs. At a recent conference in Berkeley, several major media professionals participated on a panel that discussed the use of these. I was surprised to discover that most local media: newspapers, TV, radio, community access channels, etc. , have begun to provide blog spheres for their community, and that reporters access the information provided for their use. It would be imperative that charter school advocates request that they be allowed to post blog information with their local media.
I find it ironic in some sense that we are discussing charter schools using much the same technology that is used for blogging. We are doing so because it is effective and maintains a record(thread) of the conversation. Encouraging charter school parent groups to enlist the aid of a techno-savvy parent to develop a blog site that can be linked directly with the blogs of local media is essential and necessary at this point in time.
