It seems to me that the discussion about how to frame the charter school message is not very productive. The political situation in each state is different and, while we could spend a lot of time trying to craft a single perfect message for charter school supporters to deliver, what is really needed is an effective advocacy organization in every state. We need professional lobbyists and we need grass roots organization of parents and other charter school supporters. This costs money and (at least here in NC) it isn't realistic to expect our financially-strapped charter schools to support that kind of effort. If there is a foundation out there that wants to really have an impact on charter schools, I suggest that it would be a good investment to spend money building an effective lobbying organization in every state.
