An Information Plan 6/7/04 7:21 AM

Charters are media darlings in Wisconsin. The media seem to have two approaches to news. They catch people/schools doing something right or they catch them doing something wrong. Charters school have the opportunity to do what public schools have neglected to do and that is to feed the public about all the good things they do as part of a well structured public information program. It is about building a relationship with the writers assigned to cover schools. Using the media is made easier by having an established relationship with the specifically assigned writers, and positive information is fed to the media in a way in which you want it. Press releases formated by the charter school are much more likely to contain accurate information than those articles left to the reporter, who often has a short deadline to meet.
