She returned in 2001 to Ohio from Michigan where she was a leader in that state's education reform movement and a vocal advocate of parental choice. She presently serves as Vice President for Communication and Organizational Development for the Ohio Charter School Association and the Ohio Foundation for School Choice. Anita was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Charter School Leadership Council, an organization that was formed to support the growth of high quality charter schools and to strengthen the organizational capacity of the charter school movement in the states. In November 2003 she was named Co-Chair of the 2004 Charter Schools Week Committee and is a member of the of the 2004 National Charter Schools Conference Planning Committee. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Education Freedom Fund, an organization that provides scholarships to low-income students to attend the school of their parent's choice in Michigan and is a founding member of the Black Alliance for Educational Options that is working to increase quality educational options and to empower families to meet their children's needs. She was recently named to the US Charter School Website Advisory Panel. Her previous experience includes service as Co-Convener of the Detroit Partnership for Parental Choice as well as work on a host of political campaigns around the country. She also served for more than three years as the Director of Admission and two years as Chief Development Officer for the Friends School in Detroit. Anita is a produced playwright and has written opinion pieces for several daily newspapers.
