LEGISLATIVE ALERT - OUR EFFORTS TO STOP AB 1197

This is a last minute update on our success in opposing AB 1197, a bill authored by Assemblywoman Wiggins that seeks to impose significant new and potentially harmful restrictions on charter schools and school districts. (For more information go to http://www.canec.org/1197FloorAlert.htm)

CANEC and the charter community's effort to defeat AB 1197 is working! The bill, which has been strongly promoted by CTA, FAILED to get the needed 27 votes (2/3 majority) on the floor of the Senate earlier today. The party line vote was 25 Senators in support and 15 Senators in opposition. However, the bill has been granted "reconsideration" and so the bill may come back up for another vote tomorrow or Friday.

PLEASE CALL AND THANK THE SENATORS THAT VOTED AGANST THE BILL AND ASK THEM TO STAND FIRM IN OPPOSITION TO AB 1197

It is important that the votes against the bill stay firm. Please take a moment and call the Senators who voted against the bill and thank them, and ask them to remain opposed if the bill comes up for reconsideration.
