Job Description: The Inclusion Program Manager evolves and drives a comprehensive school-wide approach to learning that supports meeting the diverse instructional needs of all students. This individual will be responsible for addressing and reducing the barriers to academic success through direct mandated and at-risk academic interventions with students, educating and supporting families and facilitating growth of staff.
The BCSC Inclusion Program Manager Supervises Inclusion Staff and Related Service Providers
• Supervise learning specialists (special education teachers), providing high levels of support and accountability.
• Create framework for learning specialists to draft push-in and pull-out SETSS and at-risk support schedules, collaborating with teachers and other staff members.
• Coordinate, schedule and supervise all related services for students, including counseling, speech and language therapy, physical and occupational therapy and vision and hearing services.
• Formalize expectations and accountability systems related to collaboration between learning specialists and classroom teachers, with the Directors of Lower and Upper School.
• Actively encourage the adaptation of curriculum material and instructional methods (including differentiation) for students with special needs and those at-risk, working closely with learning specialists and teachers to develop effective strategies to teach these children.
• Ensure close monitoring of staff to ensure adherence to established instructional and service schedules, the completion of student progress reports and other necessary documentation.
The BCSC Inclusion Program Manager Functions as the Liaison to the NYCDOE Committee on Special Education
• Refine process for determining which students are in need of a special education evaluation.
• Coordinate all special education referrals, evaluations and IEP meetings.
• Maintain active communication with CSE to ensure timely recommendation of services and/or placements.
• Complete all CSE related paperwork in a timely manner and follow up as needed.
• Gather necessary information and paperwork from staff and families in preparation for IEP meetings.
• Establish close and regular communication with families of students with special needs, educating them about due process rights and special education services.
• In cases in which services or programs are not available at the BCSC, work with families to informally counsel or formally determine a more appropriate placement.
The BCSC Inclusion Program Manager Maintains IEPs
• Maintain all paperwork and secure filing systems for new and current special education students.
• Prepare copies of current IEPs for grade level learning specialists.
• Train and direct learning specialists to distribute IEPs and review them with classroom teachers and social workers before school begins each year, and during the year as needed due to new or re-evaluations taking place, ensuring they are aware of their responsibilities related to the IEP (e.g. testing modifications, promotion criteria and privacy regulations).
The BCSC Inclusion Program Manager Develops and Implements School-Wide Academic At-Risk Efforts
• Provide the Executive Director with routine reports on the first of each month, documenting the status of students who are being processed or receive support through the CSE, the CST and/or BCSC at-risk programs
• With the Director of Support Services, Assessment Coordinator, and Instructional Leadership Team members, identify assessment measures to inform differentiation in classroom instruction, improve Child Study Team recommendations and expand the awareness of and commitment to a broader range of preventive/intervention efforts on a school-wide basis.
• With the Director of Support Services, evolve the systematic implementation of the Child Study Team, increasing the range and effectiveness of strategies recommended.
• Evolve academic at-risk interventions, while actively developing additional building-level prevention and early intervention programs that systematically target specific instructional needs.
• Provide or arrange ongoing staff development with respect to special needs and effective instructional strategies.
Qualifications: •NYS Certification required
•Minimum 2 years teaching experience preferred
•Bachelor degree required/Master’s degree preferred
•Spanish-speaking preferred
