Job Description:
The principal will use leadership, supervisory and administrative skills to promote the educational development of students and staff. He/she should be able to focus on curriculum and instruction, supervision, staff development, and evaluation of staff. Requirements also include using leadership skills to coordinate the efforts of teachers, support staff, parents and community agencies to maximize the personal and intellectual development of students. The principal will serve at DuSable Leadership Academy (DLA) of Betty Shabazz International Charter School. DLA is an African-centered college preparatory high school in its third year of operation. DLA uses the cultural arts, sciences and technology to engage students in learning; and the African principles of Ma'at to instill within its students the character values necessary for them to succeed in and out of school. In 2009, DLA will serve 425 students in grades 9-12. In 2010, campus enrollment will reach 500 students. Betty Shabazz International Charter School is a 10 year old, Illinois, 501(c)(3)organization that operates three African-centered charter schools in Chicago. Two of the campuses are elementary and the other is a high school. BSICS presently serve 745 students in grades K-11. Upon reaching capacity in 2010, BSICS will serve approximately 1,040 students in grades K-12.

Qualifications:
The candidate should possess teaching experience at the high school level. In addition, the candidate must be able to demonstrate successful experience(s) running an urban high school. Previous experience working with a diverse student population is also a plus. A master's degree in education is preferred. Betty Shabazz International Charter School reserves the right to waive any of the above requirements.

Salary & Benefits: $80,000 - $110,000 based on experience
