Job Description:
Job Description: (A) Communication and Relationship Building: (1) be accessible to and effectively communicate with Governing Board members, committee chairs, parents, faculty and staff, students, community members and other associated with NCS. (2) encourage and support parent and guardian involvement in the life of the School by soliciting and responding to input from parents and guardians. (3) encourage participation and input from faculty and staff in decision making. (4) facilitate cross-committee decision-making and communications. (6) build relationships with local community groups, businesses, and other groups outside of NCS. (7) set the agenda for and schedule Board meetings. (8) provide regular reports to the Board on committee, faculty and staff, and other work through various means. (B) Management: (1) effectively manage the daily operations and personnel, including volunteers, involved at NCS. (2) empower and facilitate faculty and committees to operate effectively and take ownership of their work and responsibilities. (3) work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, faculty and staff, and the community and other to support and implement the charter school vision and goals. (4) act as a liaison between the School and Atlanta Public Schools. (5) provide knowledge of federal, state, and Atlanta Public School policies and regulations. (6) facilitate and implement NCS Governing Board decisions. (C) Leadership: (1) articulate, facilitate, and implement the vision, mission, and goals of NCS. (2) serve as the educational leader of the School. (3) inspire commitment to NCS goals and confidence in NCS’s ability to meet those goals. (4) provide appropriate direction and feedback to the Board, faculty and staff, and parents of NCS. (D) Operations: (1) Finance: (a) develop and recommend for Board approval, in conjunction with the Finance Committee and input from staff, the annual budget reflective of the School’s goals. (b) ensure sound management policies are utilized in the expenditure of School funds and in preparing for other budgetary needs. (c) effectively manage the annual budget. (d) pursue development and fundraising goals in an effective and productive manner. (2) Facility: Ensure that the School building and grounds are kept safe, appropriately equipped, and in pleasant condition. (3) Personnel: (a) identify and screen, in conjunction with the Personnel Committee and appropriate staff, candidates for all positions within the School and make formal hiring recommendations to the full Governing Board. (b) provide for appropriate training, mentoring, evaluation, and discipline of faculty and staff. (c) effectively manage all human resources programs including staff leave, health insurance, payroll, criminal background checks, and other legal requirements and benefit programs. (d) support the Personnel Committee in the development of personnel policies for NCS. (4) Educational Program: (a) maintain the student-centered constructivism paradigm. (c) ensure individual student learning needs are met. (d) ensure appropriate student code of conduct and discipline policies are developed and implemented. (5) Charter Compliance: (a) ensure that the charter contract requirements and goals are met. (b) report quarterly to the Board on charter compliance and progress toward meeting goals. (c) report to APS as required by the charter contract. The Neighborhood Charter School (NCS) was conceived and planned by a group of concerned parents, community members, and educators that believe in public education and are confident that a well-designed and well-managed charter school will allow children from diverse communities such as ours to flourish.
