USCS Job Board Announcement

President

Organization: National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship
Type of Job: Administrator
Application Deadline: 06/15/2008

Job Description:
National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship President New York, NY Organization The National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) is an international nonprofit known for its outstanding success in providing entrepreneurship education programs that use individual business plans, partnerships and teacher trainings for educators and a global network to engage young people from low-income communities in school. These programs develop students who think and act like entrepreneurs, helping them realize greater possibilities for their futures and numerous pathways to success. NFTE students work toward completing a business plan and top students are invited to participate in regional and national competitions. Following their completion of the NFTE program, students have access to NFTE’s alumni services, which include advanced training, mentoring programs, workshops and access to awards and scholarship opportunities. Today, NFTE has successfully reached more than 180,000 young people across the globe. Founded in 1987 by entrepreneur, businessman and teacher Steve Mariotti, NFTE was originally designed as a dropout prevention and academic performance improvement program for students who were at-risk of failing or quitting school. Through NFTE’s program, students learn the fundamentals of starting and operating a small business as well as math, reading, writing, critical thinking, work place readiness, team work, planning, organization, communication, and decision-making skills. Research shows that NFTE students are not only likely to consider entrepreneurship as a pathway out of poverty, but students also improve their academic performance and are more likely to further enhance their career and educational aspirations. NFTE’s strategy for achieving this mission is to form partnerships with schools, universities and community-based organizations, create innovative experiential curricula, train and support teachers and youth workers and provide supportive alumni services. To date, with a budget of over $16M, an endowment of $9M and 75+ staff, NFTE has certified 3,200 educators and has programs active in 21 states and 13 countries, serving more than 40,000 students. NFTE has 11 domestic program offices located in: Baltimore, Bay Area, Chicago, Greater Dallas, Fairchester (Fairfield County, CT & Westchester County, NY), Greater Los Angeles, New England, New York Metro, Pittsburgh, South Florida and Greater Washington, D.C., with plans to open a Philadelphia office in 2008. For more information, please visit http://www.nfte.com/ Position The President, a newly created position, will report into the Founder and work collaboratively with the Board of Directors in leading the transformation of NFTE from its current entrepreneurial stage to a more mature organization capable of delivering on its long term vision. Specifically, s/he will ensure that NFTE’s fiscal, operations, fundraising, marketing, human resource, technology and programmatic strategies are effectively implemented across all segments of the organization. The key to success will be the President’s ability to leverage resources and maximize the Founder’s strengths in developing key donor relationships and partnerships. As the chief spokesperson, the Founder will be responsible for building the endowment as well as the strategic development of NFTE’s intellectual capital, which includes curriculum, teacher training and media initiatives. As the organization chart exists today, the President will lead and manage the headquarters Operations Team including: the Chief Financial Officer, Vice President for Resource Development (including fundraising, public policy, marketing and sales), Chief of Research, National Program Director (including the Directors of Curriculum, NFTE University, Member and Alumni Services), and Chief Operating Officer (including the eleven executive directors of the NFTE Program Offices and the Director of Strategic Initiatives including strategy, special projects and all licensed relationships in the United States and internationally).
